Reading for SATs

One of the ‘big three’.  Your child may read aloud with great fluency without performing as well as you might expect on assessment.  Much of the reading paper is about inference and unpicking nuances within unfamiliar texts, increasingly set outside of familiar contexts (i.e. set in a different time or culture).  If you look at a reading paper and mark scheme you’ll see that success requires some quite in depth thought and analysis.  These are the skills we’ll work on in these sessions. 86% of my class met A.R.E. in reading this year (the national rate was 71%).
